Skin deep, or poetry for the blind, continues Myre’s investigation of language and desire. With the use of various languages and visual signifiers, the pieces reveal, often with tactility, the complex experience and narratives of love, want, hurt and loss, within interpersonal relationship. For instance, emerging from the blue night sky (or deep ocean) of ‘till it hurts, are star-like pimple shapes sewn into the canvas to create Braille. Once decoded, the paintings’ text is raw with pain, the poetry un-poetic: “Fuck me ‘till I feel bad”. Similarly, in coda construction the survival languages of Morse code, and ground to air signals, are interwoven with English to become a fractured and distressed narrative.
