Nadia Myre is a Montreal artist who is gaining increased critical attention both nationally and internationally since she completed an MFA in sculpture at Concordia University in 2002. Myre’s conceptual practice is defined by her masterful ability to move among multiple mediums to address complex issues of history, identity and experience. She creates extraordinarily inventive works through the manipulation of a wide variety of materials - birch bark and aluminum; oil, beads and canvas; felt, metal and video. Such juxtapositions allow Myre to explore, and, at times, reconcile, the often uneasy relationships that exist today in a myriad of social and cultural contexts. As a conceptual artist, she negotiates the relational spaces of hybridity and ambiguity.
